CRA Advisory Committee Minutes 

OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE FORT PIERCE CITY CRA ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2018, IN FORT PIERCE 2ND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM, 100 NORTH US HIGHWAY 1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA.

Mr. Murphy entered the meeting at 2:10 PM and Ms. Raymond entered the meeting at 2:25 PM.

Minutes from the October 17, 2018 meeting
 

Motion was made by Kristina Gibbons, and seconded by Allan Reed to approve the minutes from the October 17, 2018 meeting.

CHAIRMAN VIEWPOINTS

Chairman Matthews wished the committee Happy Holidays and stated that elections will be held at the January 2019 meeting.

a.
Update from Officer Maldonado

Officer Maldonado gave an update on Adam's Place, the homeless assistance shelter located at 705 N. 7th Street. He stated there will be an open house on January 17, 2019 and they will be providing service and housing homeless starting January 21, 2019.

Office Maldonado stated he plans to have a meeting with non-profit organizations, Department of Children and Families, Veterans' Administration and the health department to redirect the feeding of the homeless to Adam's Place. Officer Maldonado explained that couseling, health evaluations and temporary job assignments will also be available fthrough Adam's Place.

King's Inn Update

Chairman Matthews stated that some people in the community are happy and some are sad about the demoliton of the historic King's Inn building. Chairman Matthews would like the committee to come up with some ideas of what they would like to see on the property.

Update from Caleta Scott, Lincoln Park Reviltilzation Coordinator

Ms. Scott gave a presentation on Lincoln Park. She stated the port, Virgin Train location, HD King site and the Peacock Arts District will all have an effect on Lincoln Park. Ms. Scott talked about partnerships, upcoming events and activities planned for 2019. Ms. Scott mentioned the beautifcation projects and the newest commuity garden located at 23rd and Avenue G. Ms. Scott stated she will be asking the CRA committee for their feedback on the next mural to be located at 510 Orange Avenue. Ms. Scott spoke about the successes from the summer sport activities as well as the job expo. Ms. Scott highlighed the additional activities planned for the Highwaymen Festival in February and she is looking into planning a BBQ cook off for the Spring of 2019. Ms. Scott provided the economic development plans, which include the Lincoln Park theatre rennovation, Way to Grow Lincoln Park grants, workforce housing and an asset inventory. Ms. Scott concluded her presentation with questions and she stated there will be a Lincon Park community meeting on February 20, 2019 for feedback on all the changes.

Chairman Matthew's suggested a mural for the PAL building, inviting ex-felons to the job fair, contacting Pastor Martin to create a partnership with a Haitian group and inviting other than businesses to the BBQ cook off.

Mr. Murphy brought up that Lincoln Park is included in the new Opportunity Zone, which allows for billions of dollars to be reinvested into depressed areas, and that it will be a game changer for Lincoln Park.

Ms. Gibbons explained that she went on the Brightline train tour and an apartment complex is built next to each train station for sustainability. Ms. Gibbons mentioned how impressed she was with the cleanliness and quietness of the train and the stations.

Ms. Raymond stated she is not seeking reappointment to the CRA committee because she is focusing on policy work and it may pose a conflict of interest.
