Measure M Funding Agreement MM5507.19 Between the City of Hawthorne and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to Design Street Improvements for the Inglewood Avenue Improvement Project and Appropriation of $130,000 from the General Fund Balance for this Project.
RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the grant and approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the Funding Agreement and all future amendments and appropriate $130,000 from the General Fund balance to Account Number 291-5502-XXX-40014 for the project to design street improvements for the Inglewood Avenue Improvement Project.
DISCUSSION:
Inglewood Avenue is a major north and south collector street in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles County with a daily traffic volume in excess of 30,000 vehicles per day. This collector street provides access to the 405 freeway, City of Lawndale, City of Inglewood, and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Inglewood Avenue is part of MTA bus line 215. Furthermore, Inglewood Ave has higher than normal truck traffic as there are numerous trucking hubs going into the Inglewood and Rosecrans shopping centers, which distribute to Mobil gas station, Walmart Neighborhood Market, CVS and Marshall's. This intersection also eases 405 freeway access. In addition, this segment of Inglewood Ave has direct access to Hawthorne High School and two gas stations.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN:
The funding agreement for this project is a result of the City working closely with funding and regulatory agencies to support and improve our infrastructure.
FISCAL IMPACT:
An appropriation of $130,000 is necessary. The City will be reimbursed by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for these expenditures.
