SUBJECT:

Accepting the Grant of Funds from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency to Update the City of Hawthorne’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.
 

RECOMMENDED MOTION:

Staff recommends that the City Council accept the grant award in the amount of $165,000, encumber for the same and approve the blanket purchase order for a yet to be determined consultant.

DISCUSSION:

The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Samuel English, made a grant application to the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, FEMA, for the purpose of updating the City’s Hazard Mitigation Plan that would meet the most current FEMA guidance.  FEMA has approved the grant application and will fund the City $165,000 of the total $220,000 expected cost for the project. The grant fund would be used for a consultant on the update of the City’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The grant fund of $165,000 is to be applied to the total expected cost of $220,000, with the balance of $55,000 in matching funds to be drawn from the General Fund.
