Second Amendment to the City Yard Consultant Agreement for Design Services ("Second Amendment") between the City of Hawhthorne ("City") and Rania Alomar Architect, Inc. dba RA-DA ("Consultant")
 

RECOMMENDED MOTION:

Staff recommends that the City Council approve this Second Amendment and authorize the City Manager to execute the Second Amendment to the city yard consultant agreement.

DISCUSSION:

At the council meeting on February 27th, 2024, City Council approved and authorize the City Manager to execute the first amendment to the consultant agreement between the City and Rania Alomar Architect, INC (RADA) for Design Services for the New City Yard. This amendment allowed for a single contract for both the City Yard and Senior Center projects between the City and the Consultant. This agreement would simplify administrative processes, reduces potential coordination challenges between multiple architectural firms, and optimizes resource allocation, leading to cost savings and improved efficiency.

This Second Amendment will add "Construction Administration Services" to the City Yard consultant agreement. These services would include:
  • Review contractor submittals
  • Respond to RFIs from contractors
  • Review Change Orders
  • Regular Site Visits, Site Observation & Field Reports
  • Regular Project Meetings (weekly online Meetings, plus a ,maximum of 14 site visits, one person)
  • Construction Document Revisions/Clarifications
  • Punch Lists & Final Reviews -at substantial and final completion (limited to 2 job walks)
  • Contractor Communication & Design Team Coordination 
 

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN:

This project aligns with the City’s Economic Development Element goal of enhancing the quality of life in the City, which is an important marketing asset for business attraction and making economic development a part of City decision. The Senior Center Renovation and Expansion is part of the City’s plan to developing a publicly accessible and usable space for the City's residents.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None. Funds for the cost of $140,200.00 are available in the current fiscal year’s adopted budget and will be paid for by Budget Act of 2022 from the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation.
