SUBJECT:

First Amendment to the Consultant Agreement for Design Services (“First Amendment”) between the City of Hawthorne (“City”) and Rania Alomar Architect, Inc. dba RA-DA (“Consultant”).
 

RECOMMENDED MOTION:

Staff recommends that the City Council approve this First Amendment and authorize the City Manager to execute the first amendment to the consultant agreement.
 

DISCUSSION:

At the meeting of December 12, 2023, City Council authorized Public Works, Engineering staff to execute the agreement between the City and RA-DA for Design Services for the Senior Center renovations and expansion/addition. These services include the design of the new renovations to the existing senior center structure and surrounding landscape/parking lot as well as the expansion building and additional second floor to the existing senior center structure.

The following are the additional services will be included in the agreement:
  • Review contractor submittals (shop drawings, material samples, product data)
  • Respond to RFIs from contractors
  • Review Change Orders
  • Regular Site Visits, Site Observation, Structural Observation Reports & Field Reports
  • Regular Project Meetings
  • Construction Document Revisions/Clarifications
  • Punch Lists & Final Reviews
  • Contractor Communication & Design Team Coordination (Utilities Companies Communication)
  • Increase in base fee based on increased building design scope

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN:

This project aligns with the City’s Economic Development Element goal of enhancing the quality of life in the City, which is an important marketing asset for business attraction and making economic development a part of City decision. The Senior Center Renovation and Expansion is part of the City’s plan to developing a publicly accessible and usable space for the City's residents.

The renovation/expansion of the Senior Center will improve development processing and public service operations for the elderly residents. This project is also a result of the City working with funding and regulatory agencies to support and improve our infrastructure.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

None. Funds for the cost of $358,377.00 are available in the current fiscal year’s adopted budget and will be paid for by Budget Act of 2022 from the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation.
