Department of Public Health – Public Health Services Contract between the City of Hawthorne and County of Los Angeles.
RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Staff Recommends the City Council Approve the Public Health Services Contract with the County of Los Angeles and Authorize the City Manager to Execute the Department of Public Health (“DPH”) – Public Health Services Contract.
DISCUSSION:
With the exceptions of Pasadena and Long Beach, all cities in the County of Los Angeles, including the City of Hawthorne receives DPH services from the County. The contractual arrangement for the DPH services dates back as far as 1971. The City adopted Ordinance No. 1039 (HMC §8.04.010) in 1973 which incorporated the Public Health Code of the County into the city ordinance. The DPH Contract does not charge the city for the services. This new contract was created by the County to correct minor mistakes and typos. Although the contract expires on June 30, 2029, it automatically renews for a five years terms, for an indefinite period.
