BACKGROUND

The Hidalgo County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a community-based volunteer program that aims to train both medical and non-medical volunteers to support the community during public health emergencies and disasters. The Hidalgo County MRC is part of a nationwide network of volunteer groups organized through Citizen Corps and overseen by the Office of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), with the mission of strengthening local preparedness and security. The Hidalgo County MRC was developed in response to lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the need for additional resources to supplement existing local emergency and public health efforts.
