1. Requesting authority for Hidalgo County Emergency Management to submit a letter of request to the Texas State Hazard Mitigation Section- Texas Division of Emergency Management-Texas Department of Public Safety for an extension of the Texas Safe Shelter Initiative-Safe Room Project, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program #DR-1791-331 for an additional twelve months to complete the project.

2. Request for approval for the County Judge to sign the required documentation.

The Office of Emergency Management received a letter of request from the La Joya Independent School District dated September 16, 2014 which states that the district had difficulty establishing the criteria needed to procure professional services, and therefore requests an additional twelve months to complete the project. The letter was presented and approved by the La Joya ISD Board of Trustees on September 22, 2014.

The school district has approved the professional services for an architect and the plans have been reviewed and approved by State’s Peer Review (July 14, 2014). The district is currently advertising for bids on the construction services. The performance period of the grant ends on November 27, 2014 and additional time is needed to complete the project. The projected time frame below is for project completion:

Based on recent domes' bids, the architect projects the construction time to be around 10-12 months.
