Discussion, consideration and action on letter of commitment to RGVMPO for the Safe Streets for All Action Plan Grant and if awarded, approval to contribute an amount not to exceed $ 64,000.00 as local match (application deadline is 9/15/22.)

The Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization is submitting an application for an Action Plan Grant under the Safe Streets for All program. At the August Transportation Policy Board meeting, the Policy Board took a vote that the staff of the Rio Grande Valley MPO go to the county commissioners court across our Metropolitan Area Boundary, which includes Cameron, Hidalgo, and Starr Counties and request assistance for acquiring the local match. The Rio Grande Valley MPO is applying for $500,000 to complete the first region wide Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. The Twenty percent local match would be $100,000. The Rio Grande Valley MPO is going to Cameron, Hidalgo, and Starr County Commissioners Court and requesting an amount based off population from the 2019 American Community Survey five-year population estimates. Cameron County constitutes Thirty-one percent of the population, Hidalgo County constitutes Sixty-four percent, and Starr County constitutes five percent. The Rio Grande Valley MPO is asking the Commissioners Court to take a vote today to sign a letter of commitment agreeing that if the RGVMPO gets awarded the Action Plan grant that Hidalgo County would assist with $64,000.
