NOTICE is hereby given in accordance with Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, that a SPECIAL MEETING of the Commissioners Court will be held in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Administration Building, 100 E. Cano, 1st floor, Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas. Discussion and possible action relating to the following business will be transacted:

Proclamation declaring January 2018 as Human Trafficking Awareness month.

District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez, Jr. presented a Proclamation declaring January 2018, as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Rodriguez was joined by the Lamar Academy, Memorial High School, Victims Unit, advocates from LUPE, ARISE, Fuerza Unida, Fuerza Del Valle, and Police Department from Sullivan and Hidalgo.

Victim Unit Director Rosie Martinez thanked the court for their support and commend all students who stand for for justice. 

Patricia Rocha, McAllen Memorial Student Council President, read the proclamation.

Hector Guzman Lopez representing workers' center said they support workers who are not getting paid, or are being sexually harassed, beaten or going through human trafficking. As per Lopez, last year they documented 11 cases here in the Valley of workers being held against their will and forced to work.

Pablo "Paul" Villarreal informed that this does not have budget impact. They try to cross-train employees to assist departments when other offices are short on staff. 

Silguero noted that the tax office follows the step and grade plan, therefore, these positions are budgeted at that plan.

Monday, February, 5, 2018, last day to register to vote, on Tuesday, February, 20, 2018, is the first day of voting and Friday, March 2, 2018, will be the last day of early voting, with Tuesday, March, 6, 2018, being primary election day.

Regarding Monday, February, 5, 2018, last day to register, Ramon stated that this is put out by the state due to the holiday with all items transferring to the next business day.

2) J. Rodriguez expressed concerns over the shortage of sheriff's patrolling the area where he lives, his home has been burglarized. Furthermore, Rodriguez advised that he has been waiting on a response from precinct 4, project manager Roman Rodriguez regarding street issues that have not been met.
