Discussion, consideration, and authorization for Community Service Agency to submit application for the 2018 Foster Grandparents Program (FGP) in the amount of $242,447 and 2018 Senior Companion Program in the amount of $427,478 to the Corporation for National and Community Service. Grant submission deadline April 26, 2018.
Jaime Longoria explained that both of these agencies were administer by an agency that is no longer in existence in Hidalgo County. The foster grandparents program requires a 10% none federal match, for this particular program it would required $24,000 however, because all funding in the agency is federal money, they wouldn't be able to provide it. For the senior companion program, the grant is a $427,748 and also requires a 10% none federal match which again, they would not be able to provide. All in all, Longoria said that the county would have to come up with $67,000 per year for 3-years for the two programs.
Sergio Cruz informed that there are no funds allocated for this, they would have to identify funds elsewhere. Therefore, Cruz asked the court to approve subject to funding.
On motion by COMMISSIONER PCT. 1, DAVID FUENTES, seconded by COMMISSIONER PCT. 4, JOSEPH PALACIOS, the Court made a UNANIMOUS vote of approval subject to funding.
