NOTICE is hereby given in accordance with Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, that a SPECIAL MEETING of the Commissioners Court will be held in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Administration Building, 100 E. Cano, 1st floor, Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas. Discussion and possible action relating to the following business will be transacted:

In accordance with Section 551.127, NOTICE is hereby given that a physical quorum, including the presiding officer/member, will be present at the specified meeting location.  Some members of the governing body and/or government officials may participate via videoconference.

Community Service Agency Manager, Mari Garza, offered the prayer.

Commissioner David Fuentes requested a moment of silence for Eduardo "Walo" Bazan. Mr. Bazan served as former Hidalgo County Constable for Pct. 5., from 1989 to 2006. Mr. Eduardo "Walo" Bazan passed way on January 24, 2024.

Commissioner Everardo "Ever" Villarreal, expressed his gratitude towards Senator Hinojosa for his service to the Country and to Hidalgo County.

Kimberly Cruz, with the County Judge's Office, presented the Resolution and Order to name the County Site of Precinct 3 Facilities as the State Senator Juan Jesus "Chuy" Hinojosa Complex.

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa came before the Court to express his gratitude for giving him the honor of having a health care clinic named after him.

District Attorney, Toribio "Terry" Palacios, came before the Court to express his gratitude for their support of the Young Hearts Matter Teen Dating Violence program and for declaring February 2024 as Young Hearts Matter Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

Victims Unit Director, Rosie Martinez came before the Court to extend an invitation to the 9th annual Young Hearts Matter Teen Dating Violence Awareness event.

Dr. Howard also announced that they had established a Valley African American Cultural and Heritage Council.

Mr. Valde Guerra stated that three (3) public participants signed up for Open Forum.

Public participant Beto Garza came before the Court to express his gratitude towards Judge Cortez for answering his public information request regarding his Facebook page. Mr. Garza also expressed his dissatisfaction towards Pct. 3 for responding that the County had no responsive information to the request he filed for public information regarding their Facebook page for Pct. 3.

Participant Fern McClaugherty came before the Court to express her disagreement with the Truth in Taxation Statement in the Hidalgo County website, furthermore Ms. McClaugherty stated that due to the increase of taxes, poverty is increasing and that it is very evident that the spending has also exceeded the ability of county residents to pay the County expenses.

Commissioner David Fuentes, came before the Court to make a general announcement for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pct. 1., Hike & Bike trail on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
