Adopt Resolution No. 26-10-01 accepting a drainage easement from Dillard R. Thetford and Jo Ann Thetford, Trustees, or Successor Trustees of the Dillard R. and Jo Ann Thetford Trust, dated April 3, 1997, to facilitate drainage improvements and provide access for future maintenance.

Storm events in the Globe area last fall flooded several properties along Six Shooter Canyon. In response, Gila County contracted with JE Fuller to design channel improvements intended to better accommodate stormwater flows and reduce the risk of future flooding to neighboring properties. The improvements include removing vegetation and sediment and stabilizing the creek banks.
 
During construction, with most of the improvements concentrated along the west bank of Pinal Creek, it was identified that stormwater runoff from a culvert crossing Six Shooter Canyon Road was beginning to erode the unprotected east bank of the creek adjacent to the Thetford property.

Additional bank protection is needed along the Thetford property to address the erosion and help protect the creek bank from future stormwater flows. A drainage easement is necessary to allow the County and its contractor to access the property, construct the required improvements, and provide access for future drainage-related maintenance.

The Thetfords have been contacted and have agreed to grant a drainage easement to Gila County. Acceptance of the easement will allow the County's contractor to complete the necessary bank protection improvements and will provide the County with access for future maintenance of the drainage improvements.

The Public Works Department Director and County Engineer recommend that the Board of Supervisors adopt Resolution No. 26-10-01 to accept the drainage easement from Dillard R. and Jo Ann Thetford, Trustees or Successor Trustees of the Dillard R. and Jo Ann Thetford Trust, dated April 3, 1997.
