CITY COUNCIL ACTION REPORT
| SUBJECT: | AGREEMENT WITH BASIS CHARTER SCHOOLS, INC. FOR JOINT USE OF FACILITIES |
| STAFF PRESENTER(S): | Deanna Ortiz, Recreation Superintendent |
SUMMARY
This agreement with the Basis Charter Schools, Inc. will allow for joint use of facilities between BASIS Goodyear Facilities and the Goodyear Recreation Campus.
Recommendation
Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute Joint Use Agreement between BASIS Charter Schools, Inc. and the City of Goodyear for Joint Use Facilities between BASIS Goodyear Facilities and the Goodyear Recreation Campus (GRC). (Deanna Ortiz, Recreation Superintendent)
FISCAL IMPACT
This agreement provides for no cost rental use between the BASIS Goodyear Facilities and GRC, waived rental fees are estimated to be less than $1,000 annually, therefore there is minimal fiscal impact to the City for facility use. However, costs for staffing, and/or unique facility requirements (i.e. sound technician, field prep, custodial services) may occur, these costs would be minimal and absorbed within program and event budgets established.
BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS ACTIONS
BASIS Charter Schools, Inc. and City have been collaborating with each other while serving the community. This Joint Use Agreement further supports these efforts by allowing both entities access to each other’s facilities.
STAFF ANALYSIS
With the close proximity of the GRC and BASIS Goodyear Facilities, there are opportunities to leverage both campuses for community benefit. BASIS Charter Schools, Inc. will have access to the City’s recreation center, aquatic center, parking lots, ramadas, courts and fields, once all City’s needs are satisfied. The City will have access to Basis Goodyear’s classrooms, gymnasium, parking lots, cafeteria, performing arts center and fields, once all BASIS Goodyear Facility’s needs are satisfied. Each entity has first right of refusal for use of the others facilities. By working in close partnership with one another, the City and BASIS Charter Schools, Inc. benefit strategically when scheduling amenities for sports, special events, community programs and school functions.
It is recommended that the City Manager or designee execute the Joint Use Agreement between BASIS Charter Schools, Inc. and the City of Goodyear for Joint Use of Facilities.
