SUMMARY
Request Council approval of the expenditure of FY2022 funds for the purchase of a replacement headworks auger screen and return activated sludge pumps as part of the utilities Asset Management Plan.
Recommendation
Approve expenditure of funds up to $878,000 to purchase a replacement headworks auger screen and return activated sludge pumps for the Corgett Water Reclamation Facility. (Todd Carpenter, Process Operations Manager; Barbara Chappell, Deputy Public Works Director)
FISCAL IMPACT
The FY2022 Capital Improvement Program budget includes a combined $1,410,000 in wastewater operating funds for the replacement headworks auger and the return pump station upgrades at the Corgett WRF (Projects 60066 and 60067).
BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS ACTIONS
Per City of Goodyear Resolution 08-1255, all expenditures of budgeted funds in excess of $500,000 must obtain Council approval. The city has developed and approved a Capital Improvement Program for FY2022 through FY2026. The existing headworks auger screen and return activated sludge pump upgrades at the Corgett WRF is planned to be replaced in FY2022 per this plan.
STAFF ANALYSIS
Per the approved CIP, the headworks auger screen at the Corgett WRF is planned to be replaced in FY2022 due to the age of the unit. This replacement is necessary to keep rags and debris out of the downstream processes and equipment. This screen also adds redundancy and reliability to the screening process. The return activated sludge pumps upgrades are also planned in FY2022 to add increased function and control as well as reliability to that process.
