Call of elections for August 6, 2024 and November 5, 2024, if necessary.

ADOPT RESOLUTION NO. 2024-2385 PROVIDING NOTICE OF A PRIMARY ELECTION ON AUGUST 6, 2024 AND A GENERAL ELECTION NOVEMBER 5, 2024, IF NECESSARY; DESIGNATING THE PLACE TO OBTAIN CANDIDATE PACKETS; DESIGNATING THE DATES FOR CANDIDATES TO FILE NOMINATION PAPERS; DESIGNATING THE DATES THAT VOTER REGISTRATION CLOSES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HER DESIGNEE, TO ENTER INTO ALL AGREEMENTS TO EFFECTUATE ELECTION SERVICES; AND ORDERING THE CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH THIS CALL OF ELECTION. Election costs will be budgeted in the Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget for the City Clerk's Office.

In 2019, voters approved moving the regular candidate elections for the city of Goodyear to the fall of even years to coincide with the state's elections.  Terms for the then current members of Council were extended with those terms ending in 2023 being extended to December 31, 2024.  There are currently three council seats to fill.

As this is a regular candidate election, state statutes do not require a call of election; however, this action will assist in providing information and notification to the public of the upcoming election.  Additional opportunities to share the information will take place with the publication of the resolution, updated city's election website and social media posts.  A communication plan will be established to provide regular updates to voters, especially as the election date gets closer.
