BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS ACTIONS
The city of Goodyear currently does not have a formal tourism division or dedicated tourism program. However, the city is home to several notable assets that support tourism-related activity, including the Goodyear Ballpark, Estrella Mountains, and the developing GSQ area. Recognizing the potential of these and other amenities, the city seeks to develop a comprehensive sports and tourism strategy. This strategy will aim to leverage existing assets, identify key opportunities, and enhance efforts to engage the community while attracting visitors to Goodyear.
STAFF ANALYSIS
The research and analysis conducted for this strategic plan action item focus on identifying opportunities within five key areas: sports; outdoor and nature-based recreation; arts and culture; shopping, dining, hospitality, and entertainment; and conferences, professional events, and meetings. By evaluating Goodyear’s existing assets, including its scenic outdoor spaces, diverse shopping and dining options, and emerging arts and culture offerings, this effort seeks to develop a tourism strategy that highlights the city’s unique identity and strengthens its position as a thriving regional destination. A Sample Sports & Tourism Strategy is included as Attachment A.
