AGENDA ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

1.
AVONDALE GOODYEAR TRANSIT STUDY
Project Management Coordinator Christine McMurdy introduced herself and her co-presenters, Jennifer Valentine, MAG Transportation Planner III, James Gamez, Principal Nelson\Nygaard and William Randolph, also with MAG.  Mr. Gamez presented information on the transit study which reviewed current transit options and identified future opportunities.

Council asked if there was an opportunity for the current Urbanized Area (UZA) to expand to Buckeye or further south.  Ms. McMurdy replied that the City of Goodyear did not have a say in the expansion and were notified by the Census Bureau that the Avondale/Goodyear cities would be absorbed into the larger Phoenix/Mesa UZA.  Mr. Gamez added that it was based on the combined population of Avondale and Goodyear which exceeded 200,000.

A discussion followed regarding the surveys that were sent out to the community and expansion of express bus routes.

Mr. Gamez continued the presentation by discussing transit recommendations such as fixed-route improvements, microtransit routes and pilot programs.  He also reviewed the phasing plans for the recommendations as well as the estimated costs and funding sources.

Council expressed their excitement in the different types of transit being proposed and not just relying on what has always been done.

Council requested an additional work session to discuss the future of the study, fees, specific testing areas, ridership, and sources of funding.

ADJOURNMENT
