Mr. Ron Wilks spoke to the Youth Commission about the benifits of pickleball and the importance of the sport to the community. He encouraged the Commission to send a letter to the City Council to advocate on behalf of additional pickleball facilities in the city, and offered to provide free lessons for youth interested in learning to play the game.

Goodyear Police Department K9 Demonstration
Police Officer Jared Jordan and K9 Bubba presented on the Goodyear Police Department Special Enforcement K9 Unit. Officer Jordan explained that Bubba was an explosive ordinance detection (EOD) dog, which has been specially trained to search for various types of explosives. He also discussed how Goodyear K9 Teams are duel purpose, and also assist with location and apprehension of suspects. Officer Jordan demonstrated training techniques and had Bubba locate a type of explosive.

Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update
Project Manager Diana Vasquez explained that the purpose of the Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Master Plan is to offer strategies and operational policies that provide guidance in order to meet the needs of current and future City of Goodyear residents. The Plan is updated every ten years based on input and feedback from the community.
Consultants Jeff Wozny and Marissa Pellegrini from Kimley Horn and Associates solicited feedback from the Youth Commission on the Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Master Plan; including the importance of parks and recreation to the community; areas for improvement; underserved areas in the city; and "one big idea" from each of the commissioners.

Mental Health Awareness Month Proclamation
Assistant to the Council John Raeder discussed a Mental Health Awareness Proclamation to be read by the Youth Commission at the City Council Meeting on May 2. The Commission also discussed using Social Media to promote mental health awareness information and resources in the month of May.

Mr. Raeder mentioned that the May Youth Commission meeting would be the last of the year and reminded Commissioners to apply if eligible for reappointment. The Commission also agreed to do a potluck for the last meeting.
