The meeting was called to order at 5:35p.m.

APPROVE ARTS & CULTURE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES FROM 9.14.21

SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATES:
 
a.
COMMUNICATION & ADVOCACY (BRIAN CROSS, COMMISSIONER)
Commissioner Cross reported that the social media engagement for the Chalk Art Festival was fantastic with 680 followers on Instagram viewing and sharing pictures.  The subcommittee decided on the #ArtsinGoodyear for the commission's hashtag.
 
b.
EDUCATION & PROGRAMS (NANCY LOVE, COMMISSIONER)
Commissioner Love reported a call to artist was sent out to local high schools for the Mayor Select competition.  They are working with Kelsi Kiper to grow participation and interest in the Pop Up in the Park experience.
 
c.
EVENT & FESTIVALS (HOLLY MCKENZIE, COMMISSIONER)
Commissioner McKenzie reported on events that had taken place since the last meeting including Ballet Under the Stars and Goodyear Rocks.  The events were well attended and among the takeaways were the good locations but wrong time of year with the heat.  The Goodyear Mobile Museum was activated and popular at both events.  Sparkly light-up rings and bracelets giveaway were fun and in demand.  The Fall Festival interactive Arts tent was well liked and appreciated by the masses.  Upcoming events include Goodyear 75th.
 
d.
PUBLIC ART (JENNIFER BARNES, COMMISSIONER)
Commissioner Barnes gave a summary of current public art work.  BAMM comic animation is the current call for artists.  The 2022 traffic cabinet schedule is being created.  The second phase of the Falcon Park restroom mosaic was completed and is beautiful.  City of Goodyear insurance will be covering the cost of fixing and redoing broken hearts.  The "Story Teller" book return, at the existing library, will be made into a statue and not be functional at the new Civic Square library.

APPROVE FINE ART SHOW EXHIBIT THEMES FOR 2022 (FRANCES FEE, CHAIRMAN)

4.
HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR PROGRAM (SANDRA BASSETT, EX-OFFICIO)
Ex Officio Sandra Bassett gave an update on the Holiday Spectacular.  Around the Work is the theme with dancing and signing in different languages.  The event will take place December 8th and 9th and tickets are $5.00.  There will be limited capactiy with only 145 seats and masks required.  Bassett invited the commission to attend the dress rehearsal on December 7, 2022.
 
5.
VISION & SOUND: AN AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE PROGRAM UPDATE (GUYLENE OZLANSKI, ARTS & CULTURE ADMINISTRATOR AND NORMA CUNNINGHAM)
Norma Cunningham of Vision & Sound An African American Experience gave a brief presentation of their programming and an overview of 2022 events.  Ms. Cunningham highlighted the free Vision & Sound Exhibition and Sale at Sedona Arts Center and emphasized this was the first African American exhibition to be hosted at Sedona Arts Center.
 
6.
APPROVE ADOT AESTHETICS FOR THE 303 EXPANSION (GUYLENE OZLANSKI, ARTS & CULTURE ADMINISTRATOR)
After discussion of the proposed aesthetics the commission decided to wait for more information from ADOT.
 
7.
APPROVE MEETING CALENDAR 2022 (FRANCES FEE, CHAIRMAN)
