Review, consider and possible action on employment - Jeff Carrion
Board Attorney Lesli Sorenson clarified that pursuant to ARS §38-849 (H), at any time following retirement, if the retired member becomes employed by an employer, other than the employer from which the member retired, in a position ordinarily filled by an employee of an eligible group, employee contributions shall not be made on the retired member's account, and any service shall not be credited during the period of reemployment. The employer shall pay the alternate contribution rate pursuant to section 38-843.05.

The Board acknowledged that new employee Jeff Carrion retired under PSPRS on July 30, 2021, with the City of Peoria with 20.022 years of service; that he began employment with the City of Goodyear as a Police Lieutenant on August 2, 2021; and that because he retired under PSPRS, he can no longer contribute to PSPRS even if he was in a sworn PSPRS position. Therefore, the board acknowledged that, both he and the city will be contributing to the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) for his retirement. The city will be required to pay the PSPRS Alternate Contribution Rate due to him being in a PSPRS eligible position.
