CALL TO ORDER

Subcommittee Member Hohman called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.
 
ROLL CALL
Present:
Chairman Gerald Wilson; Committee Member Sharolyn Hohman; Committee Member John Cox; Committee Member Ted Ingalls
Absent:
Committee Member Jose Gonzales
Staff Present:
Parks and Recreation Deputy Director David Seid; Parks and Recreation Administrative Assistant Jacque Bento do O'
 

MOTION BY Committee Member John Cox, SECONDED BY Committee Member Ted Ingalls to EXCUSE Subcommittee Member Gonzales from the meeting. The motion carried by the following vote:

PUBLIC COMMENTS

This is the time for citizens who would like to address the Board on any non-agenda item within the jurisdiction of the Board. The Board will listen to comments, and may take any one of the following:
  • Respond to criticism.
  • Request that staff investigate and report on the matter.
  • Request that the matter be scheduled on a future agenda.
 
BUSINESS
 
1.
Parks & Recreation Advocacy Subcommittee Goals Discussion (Chairman Wilson)
-Collaboration with other Commissions
-Increase Outreach and Engagement at Goodyear Functions
-Develop and Establish a Social Media Presence for Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission

-Advocacy Subcommittee members expressed interest in collaborating with other commissions.
-Subcommittee members agreed to start off with the Arts and Culture Commission (ACC).
-Committee Member Cox volunteered to attend an ACC meeting after October and will report back to subcommittee.
-Subcommittee members are interested in getting involved and increasing outreach at city events.
-Subcommittee members want to attend events, participate at booth, and engage with the public.
-Subcommittee members discussed social media and agreed to advertise on their own social media groups.
-Discussed inviting Parks & Recreation Marketing Specialist, Hannah Duncan to a future meeting for social media guidance.
 
2.
Volunteer at Upcoming Special Events Discussion (Chairman Wilson)

-Subcommittee members discussed interest in participating at the Fall Festival event on October 29, 5-9pm, at the Goodyear Ballpark.
-There will be a table for the commission at the Parks & Recreation Department booth.
-All the subcommittee members plan to attend.
-Chairman Wilson will give a report out at the next Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission meeting to include other commissioners.
-Subcommittee members are also interested in participating at the Goodyear Glows event on December 3, at the Goodyear Civic Square (GSQ).
 
INFORMATION ITEMS
Comments, Commendations, Report on Current Events and Presentations by Board, Commission or Committee Members, staff or members of the public. The members may not propose, discuss, deliberate or take any legal action on the information presented pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.02.

NEXT MEETING

The next Advocacy Subcommittee meeting is scheduled for November 9, 2022, at 5:00 p.m., Goodyear Recreation Campus.
 
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Chairman Wilson adjourned the meeting at 6:17 p.m.
