POLICE DEPARTMENT SCULPTURE ARTWORK APPROVAL (Layne Ruiz, Coordinator)
Coordinator Ruiz gave a brief background leading up to the 3rd rendering of "Day in the Park," public art piece. The commission chose artist Trevor O'Toole who then met with the stakeholders including commissioners, officers, city employees and the chief. Commissioner Love gave a brief evolution of the project explaining that the rendering was conceptual only and actual officers would be scanned for accuracy of scale. The project contains three characters including a boy with a baseball bat, a male and female officer handing him a baseball. Coordinator Ruiz showed a 3D rendering of the project on Celebration Lawn at PD Administration. The commissioners would like to see the female officer more included and overall more connections between the characters. The commissioners would like to visit O'Toole's studio during the production process.
