CALL TO ORDER
Chariman Paulos called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m.

APPROVE ARTS & CULTURE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES FROM 11/7/23 (Lisa Paulos, Chariman)
 

MOTION BY Commissioner Nancy Love, SECONDED BY Commissioner Louise Privette to approve draft minutes of the Arts & Culture Commission meeting held on November 7, 2023.

APPOINT KYOKO IWASAKA TO ARTS & CULTURE COMMISSION (Darcie McCracken, City Clerk)
City Clerk Darcie McCracken administered the Oath of Office to Kyoko Iwasaka to appoint her alternate commissioner to the Arts & Culture Commission.
 
3.
CHAIRMAN REMARKS (Lisa Paulos, Chairman)
Chairman Paulos is very excited to kick off 2024!  She is looking forward to working with the commission and is appreciative of Commissioner MacFarlane taking on the role of Vice Chairman.
 
4.
SUBCOMMITTEE OVERVIEW (Layne Ruiz, Coordinantor)
Coordinator Ruiz gave a brief description of the subcommittee functions and current members.  The four subcommittees include Communication, Education & Programs, Events and Festivals and Public Art.  Each subcommittee needs a minimum of three members.

APPOINT KYOKO IWASAKA TO SUBCOMMITTEE(S) (Layne Ruiz, Coordinator)
 

MOTION BY Commissioner Jennifer Barnes, SECONDED BY Vice Chairman Erin MacFarlane to appoint Commissioner Kyoko Iwasaka to the Public Art Subcommittee.

APPROVE BYLAW AMENDMENT (Layne Ruiz, Coordinator)
When the FY25 Public Art Annual Plan is presented to council they will be asked to approve bylaw changes to include a non-voting youth commissioner as well as a community ex-officio.  Commissioner Privette wondered if former Arts & Culture Chairman Fran Fee could be the ex-officio?

7.
UPCOMING EVENTS AND PROGRAMS (Layne Ruiz, Coordinator)
Coordinator Ruiz gave a brief update on upcoming events and programs.  Vision and Sound: An African American Experience will take place February 4, 2024, from 1-4pm at Goodyear Civic Square.  Hot Coffee Lecture Series takes place on the last Tuesday of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Goodyear Community Room.  On January 30, 2024, Arizona Historian Jim Turner will lecture on Navajo Code Talkers.  Theater in the Park will feature a live performance of The Wizard of Oz on March 9, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Goodyear Civic Square.  An Events and Festivals Subcommittee meeting is scheduled for the end of the month when they will send out a sign up Genius request for upcoming events.  
 
8.
ARTS UPDATE (Layne Ruiz, Coordinator)
Coordinator Ruiz gave a brief public art update.   The art installation at Fire Station 188 by Jason Butler has begun and will be debuted with the Grand Opening of the fire station.  From the cross roads the view of the artwork is vibrant and colorful.  Preliminary meetings with police and fire stakeholders for Fire Station 182 art work have begun.  Christine Kodash the artist of the mosaic mural at Goodyear Community Park has been selected for the project.  The molds for the final renderings of the statue for PD admin building are being created.

COMMUNICATIONS UPDATE (Lisa Paulos, Chariman)
Chairman Paulos did not have a communications update.

NEXT MEETING

Review the date, time and location of the next meeting, if applicable.
The next  Arts & Culture Commission was scheduled for March 12, 2024, but will be moved to March 19, 2024.
 
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Chairman Paulos adjourned the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
