APPROVE DRAFT MINUTES OF THE ARTS & CULTURE COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON JULY 9, 2024 (Lisa Paulos, Chariman)
MOTION BY Commissioner Nancy Love, SECONDED BY Commissioner Jerry Drake to APPROVE the draft minutes of the Arts & Culture Commission meeting held on July 9, 2024 with the following amendments:
- Add Carol Palmer to be excused from the Arts & Culture Commission meeting.
- Juneteenth Family Day Recap add Channel 10 to media coverage.

CHAIRMAN REMARKS (Lisa Paulos, Chariman)
Chairman Paulos began her remarks by pointing out the newest art show hanging in the library. The art was created by Goodyear employees and volunteers who are normally excluded from the call to artists solicited by the city. The beautiful art submitted by Commissioners Iwasaka and Privette is among the works featured in the community room.

WELCOME NEW ALTERNATE CAROLE PALMER (Lisa Paulos, Chariman)
Chariman Paulos welcomed Carole Palmer as the new alternate commissioner for the Arts & Culture Commission. Commissioner Palmer shared her lifelong passion for the arts, especially the performing arts. She holds a master’s degree in Theater Arts and has been an active member of the Pebblecreek Performing Arts community since 2009. She would like to have an impact on the growth of performing arts in Goodyear.

WELCOME YOUTH COMMISSIONER KILEY COLVIN (Layne Ruiz, Arts & Culture Coordinator)
Coordinator Ruiz introduced Youth Commissioner Kiley Colvin, who has been selected to provide a youth perspective to the Arts & Culture Commission.
5.
TEEN ART POP-UPS (Rosiland Robinson, Commissioner)
Commissioner Robinson provided an overview and update of the Teen Art Pop-Ups program. The Advocacy & Education Subcommittee surveyed Goodyear teens on what kind of pop-up art they would be most interested in. Every 3rd Wednesday of the month the Goodyear Recreation Campus will host a pop-up event.
6.
FALL EVENTS UPDATE (Nancy Love, Commissioner)
Commissioner Love gave a brief overview of upcoming Arts & Culture events and the role of the commissioners. The annual Fall Festival will be held at the ballpark on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 5-9 p.m. The Arts & Culture commissioners will host an Adam's Family themed trick-or-treat booth on the field during the event. Chalk Art in the Park will be at the Goodyear Recreation Campus on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The commissioners will provide chalk and logistical support for the participants.
7.
ARTS UPDATE (Layne Ruiz, Arts & Coordinator)
Coordinator Ruiz provided updates on current public art and programs. The bronze sculpture, Better Together by Trevor O'Toole, was installed outside the entrance to the Goodyear Police Department. The statue of a male and female police officer offering assistance to a child is a tribute to community policing in Goodyear and embodies Goodyear's values of empathy, optimism and integrity.
