REVIEW AND APPROVE CONCEPT FOR GOODYEAR RECREATION CENTER WALKING TRACK MURAL (DARIANA TREVIZO, CATITUDE ARTS)
Catitude Arts Mural Mentor Dariana Trevizo led the mural mentor team in presenting the GRC Walking Track Mural Concept review. Each mentee presented the meaning behind the design and the community and stakeholder engagement. This mural reimagines The Tortoise and the Hare to reflect the Goodyear Recreation Center community. The warm colors of the hare represent fast-paced, high-energy users, while the cool tones of the tortoise symbolize steady, mindful progress. Designed to be viewed from both directions of the walking track, the artwork celebrates every individual’s unique pace and reminds us that all paths lead toward personal wellness. It embodies GRC’s commitment to inclusivity and community connection, where everyone moves forward together. The diverse community of Goodyear comes together at the GRC.
Committee Member Iwasaka expressed appreciation for the color palette and overall story, noting its international appeal, strong symbolism, and approachability. She also liked the idea that different characters could be chosen each day. Chair Privette commented positively on the rhythm and movement of the piece. Committee Member Fries shared that she liked the graphic quality of the work. Committee Member Drake inquired about the types of paint used for the piece. Dariana Trevizo confirmed outdoor grade paint would be used for maximum durability.
