Parks and Recreation Lifeguard Recruitment (Megan Johnson, Recreation Coordinator)

Recreation Coordinator Megan Johnson presented to the Commission about lifeguard job opportunities available this summer. She explained that the new Recreation Campus Aquatics Center will include a lap pool, play pool with zero-depth entry and play structure, a lazy river, and two slides. To help staff the Aquatics Center and Loma Linda Pool, the city will be hiring 70-80 new lifeguard positions that have a starting pay of $12.15/hour.

Ms. Johnson stated that being a lifeguard offers a fun work environment, and opportunity to work as a team and make new friends. She also noted that lifeguards lean important emergency care and drowning prevention skills.

3.
Goodyear Special Election Presentation (Jenna Goad, Assistant to the City Manager)

Assistant to City Manager Jenna Goad and City Clerk Darcie McCracken provided an awareness presentation on the upcoming Goodyear special election. The purpose of the special election is to consider permanent changes to the Goodyear City Charter.

Ms. Goad explained that the city of Goodyear is a charter city. A charter is the basic document that defines the organization, powers, functions and essential procedures of the city government. The charter also defines term limits and qualifications for the city council.

Ms. Goad noted that the ten charter amendments were proposed by the Citizen Charter Review Committee following an extensive public process, and the Council then voted to send proposed amendments to Goodyear voters. One of the significant changes proposed would remove the automatic population trigger for districting. Instead, the charter would now require that the Council consider appointing a Citizen Charter Review Committee every ten years to conduct a thorough review of the charter. The proposed change will allow a Citizen Committee to determine if and when districts should be considered in the future.

Ms. Goad encouraged commissioners to vote if eligible or to talk to their parents about the election.

4.

Commissioners expressed support for the video and agreed to submit music suggestions.

Mr. Raeder thanked Commissioner Connor Schaefer for editing the video and the members of the Commission for submitting video clips.
