TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS

By:  Elias Saykali, Public Works Director

SUBJECT:
APPROVE NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR ANNUAL RESIDENTIAL STREET REHABILITATION AND SLURRY SEAL PROJECT, FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019, CITY PROJECT NO. 8-R-18

RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council approve the Notice of Completion for the Annual Residential Street Rehabilitation and Slurry Seal Project, Fiscal Year 2018-2019, City Project No. 8-R-18, and authorize staff to file the Notice of Completion for recordation.

DISCUSSION:

On January 17, 2023, City Council awarded a construction contract to Onyx Paving Company, Inc., of Anaheim, California, in the amount of $866,400, which included a 20% contingency, for the construction of the Annual Residential Street Rehabilitation and Slurry Seal Project, Fiscal Year 2018-2019, City Project No. 8-R-18 ("Project").

The project included mobilization, preparation and implementation of storm water "best management practices," traffic control, slurry seal, localized pavement reconstruction, concrete improvements, striping and markings, and all associated work as identified on the construction drawings. The project included the reconstruction of sixteen (16) ADA pedestrian ramps, approximately one centerline mile of asphalt concrete paving, and ten (10) residential streets of roadway slurry seal throughout various residential neighborhoods. All improvements have been completed and staff has conducted a final inspection and found that the work was completed satisfactorily in accordance with the Project's contract specifications and City standards.  Upon acceptance of the Project by the City Council, staff will file a Notice of Completion (Attachment 1) for recordation at the Orange County Clerk-Recorder’s Office.

FISCAL IMPACT/SOURCE OF FUNDING:

The total construction cost for the project was $718,153, or $148,247 less than the approved purchase order amount of $866,400; therefore, there are sufficient funds to release retention and file the Notice of Completion.
