RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation: That the Community Services Commission review and approve the proposed rules for the new pickleball courts.
DISCUSSION:
At the December Community Services Commission meeting, staff presented research from neighboring cities regarding rules that govern municipal pickleball courts. Staff was asked to provide additional information to be reviewed at the January meeting. The updated proposed rules are as follows;
1. Pickleball Court hours of operation: 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
2. This is a first come, first serve, facility. Reservations are not accepted at this time.
3. Groups are limited to 30 minutes of playing time if there are other groups waiting. If there are no other players, groups may play indefinitely.
4. Groups are required to leave the court once playing time has concluded, if there are others waiting.
5. Private paid lessons are not allowed in the park.
6. Courts are to be used for pickleball only. No other activities are allowed on the courts.
7. No food on the courts. Water and sports drinks are permitted. All participants are required to clean up after themselves.
8. Be courteous and considerate to fellow players and park users
9. Participants are expected to follow the posted rules, and failure to follow the posted rules will lead to removal from the park.
