That the City Council approve and authorize the Chief of Police to accept and execute an agreement with the State of California's Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to accept the "Selective Traffic Enforcement Program" (STEP) grant funding in the amount of $160,000 to fund overtime costs related to extra enforcement operations, collaborative Driving while Under the Influence (DUI) and Traffic Enforcement, travel, and training.
DISCUSSION:
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides grant funding to local law enforcement agencies to support programs that improve traffic safety and reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. The City applied for an OTS grant to enhance traffic enforcement, education, and awareness efforts with the community. The grant focuses on programs such as traffic enforcement, DUI (Driving While Under the Influence) enforcement, bike enforcement, motorcycle enforcement, pedestrian enforcement, and traffic education, including DUI Checkpoints.
If approved by Council, the $160,000 OTS grant will help support the La Habra Police Department’s ongoing efforts to promote roadway safety. The funds will be used for officer overtime dedicated to traffic enforcement operations, traffic safety education, and related equipment and training.
