CONSIDER CENTENNIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE NOMINATION UPDATE AND CITY COUNCIL NOMINATIONS

RECOMMENDATION:


That the City Council receive and file the Centennial Planning Committee update and that each Councilmember make one nomination to the Committee.

DISCUSSION:

At its Regular Meeting of September 18, 2023, City Council approved the formation of the City's Centennial Celebration Ad Hoc Planning Committee, including the make-up of the Committee.  The members of the Committee thus far are as follows:
  1. Lowell Joint School District: Jim Coombs
  2. La Habra City School District: Gina Cosylion
  3. City of La Habra Planning Commission: Carrie Surich
  4. Boys and Girls Club of La Habra: Dawn Stille
  5. La Habra Historical Society: Debbie Musser
  6. Friends of the Children's Museum: Jimmy Andreoli
  7. La Habra Art Association: Mary Schultz
  8. La Habra Woman's Club: Natalie Skullr-White
  9. La Habra Host Lions Club: Kathy Felix
  10. La Habra Faith Based Community: Scott Miller
  11. City of La Habra Community Services Department Selection: Roy Ramsland
  12. Business Community Representative: Northgate Market
  13. Business Community Representative: El Cholo Restaurant
  14. TBD, La Habra Rotary Club
  15. TBD, Fullerton Joint Unified School District

Staff is looking forward to completing the Committee formation and beginning the planning process. It is recommended that the City Council make their nominations to the Committee at tonight's meeting.
 

FISCAL IMPACT/SOURCE OF FUNDING:

The Centennial Celebration Ad Hoc Committee members are unpaid volunteers; therefore, there is no cost related to the Committee. There will be staff costs associated with the planning and production of centennial events and activities, along with the direct cost of hosting those events. Staff will present Committee recommendations and estimated costs for proposed events to the City Council at future Council meetings for consideration and approval.
