| SUBJECT: | CONDUCT INTERVIEWS FOR ANNUAL EXPIRING TERMS AND TWO ALTERNATES ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION AND THE COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION

RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council conduct interviews for annual expiring terms and two alternates on the Planning Commission and Community Services Commission.
DISCUSSION:
At its Regular Meeting of January 16, 2024, the City Council was notified of the following commission/committee vacancies:
- Two 4-year terms on the Planning Commission that will expire on March 31, 2028.
- Two 3-year terms on the Community Services Commission that will expire on March 31, 2027.
- One vacancy on the Beautification Committee that will expire March 31, 2026.
At that time, City Council directed staff to advertise all expiring terms and to schedule interviews. The Commission recruitment was posted at City Hall and the City Council Chamber, and was also advertised on the City's social media sites, the City website, on Channel 3, and in the Orange County Register.
No applications were received for the Beautification Committee vacancy; however, 14 applications were received for the Planning Commission and/or Community Services Commission vacancies by or before the 6:00 p.m. deadline on February 22, 2024. One applicant has withdrawn from the process due to personal reasons, and two applicants were non-responsive to multiple email and phone messages left by staff to schedule an interview time. All candidate applications that were received are attached for City Council review.
Below is the applicant interview schedule beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024, prior to the Regular City Council Meeting:

FISCAL IMPACT/SOURCE OF FUNDING:
The Planning Commissioners earn a monthly stipend of $100. The Community Services Commissioners earn a monthly stipend of $50. Beautification Committee members do not receive a stipend. Stipends are an expense of the General Fund.
