APPROVE DENIAL OF LIABILITY CLAIM OF JOHN LUCKETT

RECOMMENDATION:


That the City Council deny the claim of John Luckett in order to set a definite six-month Statute of Limitations date.

DISCUSSION:

Downtown LA Law Group, on behalf of their client John Luckett, a City of Anaheim resident, filed a claim against the City on February 12, 2026, in the amount of $100,000,000. The claim alleges that on August 10, 2025, Mr. Luckett was injured when the bus he boarded accelerated before he could reach his seat. The law firm representing Mr. Luckett was notified that the City does not own or operate a public transit system, and, therefore, has no responsibility or legal liability for any claims for damages arising out of this incident.
