| SUBJECT: | APPROVE A NEW LEASE AGREEMENT WITH THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 267 |
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a new lease agreement with the American Legion Post 267.
DISCUSSION:
The American Legion Post 267 was established in 1926. Their mission is to enhance the well-being of America's veterans, their families, the military, and communities through devotion to mutual help. As a Congressionally chartered organization, its core mission is to 'strengthen the nation' by serving those who served, advocating for benefits and mentoring youth. The American Legion Post 267 focuses on four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. In 1998, they partnered with the City to host the first annual Veterans Day Celebration. The organization also participates in City events and hosts a booth at the annual Fourth of July Celebration, Concerts in the Park and other community events. Other important La Habra activities hosted by American Legion Post 267 are the Memorial Day Ceremony, Flag Day Ceremony, Police & Fire Awards Luncheon and Flag Retirement Program. On April 11, 2026, the American Legion Post 267 celebrated its 100th anniversary and hosted a free community dinner event at the City's Community Center.
A new lease agreement, at a cost of $1 per year, was prepared for the American Legion Post 267 organization for their continued use of Veterans Hall for weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings and events. The organization will be responsible for cleaning the facility before exiting, including placing all trash in receptacles and must close and lock all windows and doors. The American Legion Post 267 is required to report any damage to the building or property to the Community Services Department and comply with all laws affecting their use at Veterans Hall.
