AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION OR LEGISLATION TITLE
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING IRISH HERITAGE AND NATIONALITY MONTH IN THE CITY OF LORAIN
PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND:
WHEREAS, Irish immigrants and their descendants have played an important role in shaping the history, culture, and economic strength of the United States and the City of Lorain; and
WHEREAS, the legacy of perseverance demonstrated by the Irish people, particularly during the Great Hunger in Ireland, reflects a story of courage, faith, and determination that continues to inspire generations; and
WHEREAS, Irish Americans have contributed significantly to public service, labor, education, business, the arts, and civic leadership, advancing the principles of liberty and equality; and
WHEREAS, local organizations including the West Side Irish American Club, the Ohio Ancient Order of Hibernians and Irish Heritage Club of Lorain help preserve and promote Irish culture, heritage, and charitable service within our community; and
WHEREAS, the celebration of St. Patrick's Day on March 17th and Irish Heritage and Nationality Month fosters cultural pride, unity, and appreciation throughout the City of Lorain.
