AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION OR LEGISLATION TITLE
A RESOLUTION DECLARING APRIL AS SCOTTISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH IN THE CITY OF LORAIN
PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND:
WHEREAS, Scottish American Heritage Month is observed each April as an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the lasting contributions of individuals of Scottish descent to the United States, and to recognize their influence on the nation’s history, values, and cultural landscape; and
WHEREAS, generations of Scottish immigrants and their descendants have made meaningful contributions to the development and character of the City of Lorain, leaving a legacy across numerous sectors including commerce, public service, education, and the arts; and
WHEREAS, the cultural traditions of Scotland—encompassing storytelling, music, dance, and enduring customs—have helped enrich the broader American cultural experience and continue to be shared and appreciated within our community; and
WHEREAS, Scottish Americans have long exemplified dedication to civic engagement, innovation, and leadership, embodying principles such as resilience, integrity, and a strong work ethic; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lorain values the diversity of its residents and recognizes the importance of honoring the unique cultural backgrounds that contribute to the strength, unity, and vibrancy of the community.
