AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION OR LEGISLATION TITLE
A RESOLUTION COMMEDNING KARALENA RODRIGUEZ ON HER WRESTLING SEASON SUCCESS AND CHAMPIONSHIP WIN.
PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND:
This year, Karalena Rodriguez, a sixth grader at St. Peter’s School, set clear goals for her season and backed them up with serious commitment. She pushed herself by attending practice three to four days a week and waking up at 6 a.m. to work out before school, staying disciplined in pursuit of her goals.; and
Her hard work showed on the mat. Karalena competed in three state tournaments this year in the 90-pound weight class, including the Marion, Ohio State Tournament and the OAC (Ohio Athletic Committee) Junior High State Tournament as a sixth grader, where she secured first place. She went on to win the Grade School State Tournament as well, finishing an incredible week as a three-time state champion; and
Continuing into freestyle season, Karalena competed at the West Virginia National State Duals and individual tournament. She placed first in the individual competition and went 4–1 in duels, helping her team capture the overall championship; and
Karalena began her wrestling journey in the Lorain High School Biddy program and has since advanced to train under Eric Burnett with BTW Club. She also competes with the Lady Warriors duels team from Walsh Jesuit High School, continuing to grow and compete at a high level.
