AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION OR LEGISLATION TITLE:
Ordinance authorizing the Safety/Service Director to enter into a professional services agreement with Jonathan J. Downes, Zashin & Rich Co., LPA for professional legal services and declaring an emergency.
PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND:
The City of Lorain is party to an arbitration case involving the Lorain Police Department (Middlebrooks arbitration) and other claims against the City of Lorain and its current and former employees. The Law Director recommends the retention of outside legal counsel, Jonathan J. Downes, Zashin & Rich, Co., LPA, who has represented the City in past litigation and advisory matters and are uniquely qualified to represent the City of Lorain and individuals named in the claims.
RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL:
Lorain City Council to consider for passage
