Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into FAA Memorandum of Agreement 697DCM-25-L-00006 for NAVAIDS at the Mankato Regional Airport (MKT).
Recommendation/Action(s):
Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) No. DTFAGL-06-A-00017 at Mankato Regional Airport, Mankato, Minnesota expires on September 30, 2025, and there is a continuing need for the land rights for the FAA to operate and maintain six of their facilities on our property in support of our airport operations. These facilities include:
The new agreement, FAA MOA 697DCM-25-L-00006, is a 20-year no-cost agreement for the facilities listed above that the FAA owns, operates and maintains. Staff recommends the Council adopt the resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into FAA Memorandum of Agreement 697DCM-25-L-00006 for NAVAIDS at the Mankato Regional Airport (MKT).
- Medium Intensity Approach Light System (MALSR)
- A system of lights installed along the runway centerline to help pilots align their aircraft with the runway during an instrument landing approach.
- Localizer (LOC)
- Aides pilots in aligning their aircraft with the runway during landing and approach.
- Glideslope (GS)
- Provides vertical guidance for aircraft during landing and approach and is part of the ILS.
- VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) with distance-measuring equipment (DME): (VOR/DME)
- VOR gives the pilot azimuth (angle) information and DME measures distance.
- Remote Communications Air/Ground (RCAG)
- An unmanned VHF/UHF transmitter/receiver facility which is used to expand air/ground communications coverage and to facilitate direct contact between pilots and controllers.
- Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS)
- A weather station that provides real-time airport weather information to help pilots and other aviation personnel make decisions.
