Set June 9, 2025, as the date of the public hearing to amend the permitted uses in the B-1 Zoning District of Chapter 10 of the City Code pertaining to low-potency cannabis; by request of the City of Mankato.

At the April 23, 2025, meeting, the Planning Commission recommended setting the date of hearing for June 9, 2025, for the adoption of an amendment to an ordinance related to sales of low-potency cannabis in the B-1, Community Business District.

An ordinance was previously passed establishing regulation requirements for the sale of low-potency hemp products, adult use cannabis products, an ordinance establishing special event requirements for temporary cannabis events, and an ordinance amending Chapter 10 Land Use (Zoning). 

In the legislation legalizing cannabis, the City of Mankato determined the applicable zoning districts in which cannabis-related businesses are allowed to operate. At that time, it was determined that zoning districts CBD-C, CBD-F, B-1, B-2, and B-3 were allowable zones. 

To align the ordinance with the information provided to the council, an ordinance amendment is proposed to add lower-potency cannabis sales in the B-1 district. The request is to set June 9, 2025, as the date of hearing for the ordinance amendment.
