Resolution approving a Joint Powers Agreement with the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force.

Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
This Joint Powers Agreement continues the longstanding partnership between the Mankato Department of Public Safety – Police Division and the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force (MRVDTF). The purpose of this agreement is to support coordinated efforts in narcotics education, illegal drug enforcement, and the reduction of violent crime across the region.
The MRVDTF is comprised of the following participating agencies: Mankato Department of Public Safety, Blue Earth County, North Mankato Police Department, St. Peter Police Department, Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, St. James Police Department, Madelia Police Department, Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office, Fairmont Police Department, and Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
The task force operates as a cooperative investigative unit staffed by licensed police officers from the ten member agencies, co-located to facilitate integrated investigations of narcotics and violent crime within a four-county area. Through the Joint Powers Agreement, these jurisdictions provide regional coverage and share resources to address criminal activity that routinely crosses city and county boundaries.
Participation in and support of the MRVDTF allows assigned agents to operate effectively within Mankato and throughout the surrounding jurisdictions, enhancing the region’s collective public safety response.
