Resolution authorizing the purchase of a mobile command center and allocation of Public Safety Aid funds for purchase, refurbishment, and upgrades.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
The City of Mankato has identified the need for a mobile command center to support emergency management, incident command, and coordinated public safety operations. Staff have negotiated a Sale and Purchase Agreement with the City of Eden Prairie for the purchase of a 2001 Freightliner MT55 Mobile Command Center at a cost of $60,000.
To ensure the vehicle meets current operational and technological needs, staff recommend investing an additional $65,000 in refurbishment and functional upgrades, including communications equipment, technology enhancements, emergency lighting, vehicle graphics, and other public safety improvements. Public Safety Aid funds are proposed to be used for both the purchase and the upgrades.
In addition, the City will set aside $50,000 from Public Safety Aid investment income to account for depreciation and to support the future replacement of the mobile command center. The vehicle will be added to the City’s depreciation and capital replacement planning schedule to ensure long-term fiscal planning and sustainability.
