Resolution directing No Parking within 30 feet of a traffic signal at 629 North Riverfront Drive.

Adoption of the attached resolution.

In response to citizen service requests, staff conducted a comprehensive review of traffic control signage at associated intersections and roadway segments. The goal was to address safety concerns, improve clarity for drivers, and ensure compliance with the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MN MUTCD) and applicable City of Mankato policies in a consistent way.
 
On January 13, 2026, the Site Plan and Traffic Advisory Committee approved the recommendation to bring these items to the City Council for resolution with no additional conditions.

For the No Parking related service request, staff considered applicable Minnesota Statutes for stopping and parking, the existing pavement markings and lane configuration, existing signage, and location of the adjacent driveway.

The following change is proposed:

1. Install a No Parking sign on North Riverfront Drive at the intersection of North Riverfront Drive and East Rock Street along the southeast curb between the driveway access to 629 riverfront drive property and East Rock Street pursuant to Minnesota Statute 169.34, which restricts parking within 30 feet of a traffic signal.
2. The owners of Mom & Pop's Ice Cream at 629 North Riverfront Drive have been contacted regarding the proposed sign installation and are supportive.
