The Mankato Department of Public Safety (MDPS) has entered into agreements with local industry to provide OSHA-required confined space rescue services. This agreement allows local industry to have one specialized confined space rescue team at their disposal rather than forcing each local business to fund, train, and equip their own teams to meet the OSHA requirement. Each business who contracts with MDPS pays an annual maintenance fee based upon the number and types of confined spaces to cover the cost of equipment and training. Included in the fee is the cost of emergency response to their facility should confined space rescue services be required. Contracted businesses are also offered a reduced cost for rescue team standby services should their employees need to undertake a higher risk confined space entry.
