Resolution regarding City Policies on Immigration Enforcement.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
The City Council had a joint meeting with the Public Safety Advisory Committee (the body) on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. During that meeting, the body received information from the City Attorney regarding recent court decisions that affect the efficacy of the City’s current Emergency Ordinance Continuing to Clarify Requirements for Law Enforcement Agencies and Officers within the City.
As a result of the discussion, the body determined that the Emergency Ordinance should expire as it is set to do later in August. The body also decided that a Resolution that outlines the City’s policies as it relates to Immigration Enforcement should be considered by City Council. In addition, the attached resolution also refers Chapter 414 of the Mankato Police Policy to the Public Safety Advisory Committee for review for any modifications. The Committee is scheduled to meet on September 22, 2026.
The situation will continue to be monitored and, should conditions change, the City Council could consider other actions in the future.
