Agenda Item:
Resolution considering bids on Capital Improvement Project 11159; Fire Station 3 HVAC and Restroom Remodel.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
Capital Improvement Project 11159 Fire Station 3 HVAC upgrades, was readvertized for public bidding beginning on August 14th, 2026. The project was previously bid but due to budget constraints, those bids were rejected by Council on August 10th, 2026, and rebid.
The work includes renovation of architectural interior finishes to accommodate the new heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. The areas of proposed improvements associated with the Fire Station 3 heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment project include a new HVAC unit to serve the building, a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system with individual resident room control to improve efficiency and provide zone control for resident spaces. An energy recovery ventilator (ERVs) will be added to provide code-required ventilation requirements. Replacement of the existing water heater and condensing boiler is also included in the project.
The work also includes two alternates, numbered four (4) and five (5). Alternate 4 is to install new acoustic ceiling tile and grid in lieu of reinstalling existing ceiling tile in the corridors. Alternate 5 is to install electrical, plumbing and dryer venting for a second washer/dry hook-up in the shared laundry space.
Four bids were submitted by qualified contractors. The apparent low bidder is Met-Con Construction Inc. with a base bid of $588,000 and a bid for the alternates 4 and 5 of $13,800 for a total bid of $601,800.
Staff recommend awarding the bid and alternates 4 and 5 in the amount of $601,800. Funding will come from the Public Safety Capital Fund.
