Recommendation/Action(s):

No action, informational only.

Summary:

In accordance with Section 2-8 of the Mankato City Code, the City Manager is to report as soon as practicable on change orders approved under $100,000. The following is a summary of change orders to date for the following projects:

CIP 11193 – 2026 Resurfacing – Change Order 5
The Contractor expressed concerns about completing the miscellaneous sidewalk work at 881 Madison Avenue without a Madison Avenue lane shift. The Contractor expressed similar concerns along Val Imm Drive due to the tight turning movements that would be required for construction traffic to access Dolph Reservoir. Based on the safety concerns for both the traveling public and the Contractor, the Engineer has directed the Contractor to do the following:
  • Implement traffic control to temporarily close one lane on Madison Avenue to allow for the sidewalk and patching work to be completed at 881 Madison Avenue per layout 57 of the Field Manual.
  • Implement traffic control to shift the travel lanes along Val Imm Drive to allow space for construction traffic to enter the work zone without impacting traffic along Val Imm Drive per layout 29 of the Field Manual.
The Contractor intends to use similar devices for both traffic control setups. Moving the traffic control setup from one location to the next location will be compensated at the Contract Unit Pricing for labor and equipment hours.

CIP 11193 – 2026 Resurfacing – Change Order 6
During construction, staff requested to have located posts installed by the fiber handholes so that the tracer wire that was included with the new fiber conduit could be found and easily connected to. The Engineer has directed the Contractor to install 2 locate posts, one at each of the fiber handholes that the new 2" fiber conduit was installed between.
