Presentation of Citizen Appreciation Award.
Summary:
The Mankato Department of Public Safety Awards Committee was made aware of the following actions that took place on May 26, 2024:
At approximately 9 p.m., Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a house was on fire in the 100 block of Spyglass Drive. Initially, it was reported that flames were coming from the front door and garage areas of the house. It was unknown if any occupants were inside. After firefighters arrived, they learned that Kile Hesse was driving home with his family when he noticed the fire. He stopped and alerted the occupants of the home, who were inside and unaware of the fire. Without hesitation, Kile began getting residents of the property out of the structure and away from the fire. His quick thinking and decisive actions ensured that everyone was safely evacuated before the situation could worsen.
Upon the arrival of Mankato firefighters, all the residents were found to be outside the home. The fire was found near the front door and inside the attached garage. The garage was described as having heavy black smoke with zero visibility and high heat.
