Agenda Item:
Update on Highway 169 North Phase Project
Recommendation/Action(s):
Update only.
Summary:
The Project Management Team for the Highway 169 Project has continued work on the corridor; we are providing an update from our meeting in June. Work for this group has focused on the construction elements of the northern phase of the project, including a pedestrian underpass, utility work, trail connections, and the two roundabouts. A representative from MnDOT reviewed the plans, updated the Council on the City’s anticipated share of the project for the construction of the roadway, which is anticipated to be approximately $3 Million. The City will also be responsible for the cost of any utility improvements not necessitated by MnDOT’s project. In addition to this work, the Council authorized an application for a state grant for the pedestrian underpass; news of the grant outcome is anticipated later in December.
The entire northern phase of the project is estimated at $42 Million, including construction, utilities, and pedestrian underpass/box culverts. The presentation indicates the costs to be approximately $34 Million. This is for the roadwork only, excluding utilities and the underpass.
Future work on the corridor will include more detailed work on the southern phase of the project, continued work with the Visual Quality Committee, and a review of a cooperative construction agreement between the partners.
