Resolution authorizing the City Manager to advance the replacement of a Class 400 Bus from 2026 to 2025.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
Federal Transit Administration identifies the service life of a Class 400 bus as 150,000 miles or 5-years, whichever occurs first.
Minnesota Department of Transportation, Office of Transit and Active Transportation, manages the bus replacement program at the state level for all public transit agencies in the state. MnDOT has notified Mankato Transit System of the identification of seven model year 2018 Class 400 buses eligible for replacement and their intent to use state funding to replace all seven in the year 2025.
Previously identified in the Mankato/North Mankato Area Planning Organization (MAPO) Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) as five Class 400 buses (TRS-0028-26A) and two Class 400 buses (TRF-0028-26F), MnDOT intends to fund both projects using only state funds with a 10% local share for year 2025.
The Capital Improvement Program identifies six replacement buses in 2025 (Units 803, 804, 805, 827, 829, and 831) and one bus in 2026 (Unit 828).
Central Garage recently found excessive frame rust in several of the model year 2018 Class 400 buses and approves the advancement of the replacement.
